Information for future applicants to the Professional Advising Leadership (PAL) Fellows Program
Wednesday, 07 July 2004

The Professional Advising Leadership (PAL) Fellows Program is designed for senior-level educational advisers in the EducationUSA network sponsored by the U.S. Department of State.  These individuals benefit from a competitive selection among their peers by designing and taking ownership of a personally-driven research or training project carried out in the United States that will have a formative impact on advising in their countries and regions.  It builds upon the mid-level U.S. Based Training Program (USBT) as well as in-country and regional advising workshops and conferences.  More information is here...

We Are the USBTeers!

by USBT Alumni

There comes the time, when we are to celebrate

When all must come together as one

It’s our 20th Anniversary

And it’s time to celebrate this event

The greatest one of all

We all wanna thank, The U.S. Department of State

For giving us, the chance to be USBTEERS!

We are all a part of this big great family

Which is called

USBT Alumni

Chorus:

We are the U, USBTEERS,

We are the ones who are to celebrate

So let’s start cheering

It’s a joy to do it

We’re sharing this great time

It’s true, we are to celebrate, just we, we all!

Spread the word, so everyone knows who we are

And then join this grand and big event

All universities that have hosted us

Are welcome to join us as well

Chorus repeat

Now that we are all here, let’s make a toast for all

Those ones who have made this dream come true

Lets us realize that 20th Anniversary

Only happens once in life

Chorus repeat x2

It’s true we’d better celebrate just we, we all

Letter of Congratulations from the U.S. Department of State
Tuesday, 08 June 2004

United States Department of State

Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs

Washington, D.C. 20547

www.state.gov

Dear U.S. Based Training Program Alumni,

I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to you and the leadership of the U.S. Based Training Program Alumni Association for all of your work to promote international educational exchange. On this, the twentieth anniversary of the U.S. Based Training (USBT) program, please accept my heartfelt appreciation for all you have done to help so many young people realize their dreams through an educational program in the United States.

Since 1984, when the College Board offered the first USBT program with funding from the United States Information Agency, and in later years when Columbia University Teachers College and then NAFSA: Association of International Educators administered the program, the USBT has contributed to the professional training of advisers and fostered cultural and educational links between the United States and more than 100 countries worldwide. Because the USBT enables advisers to meet and get to know campus hosts, the program has helped establish enduring ties between U.S. professionals and overseas educational advisers.

As we move into the 21st century, continued participation in and contribution to the USBT program by advisers, campus hosts and non-governmental organizations is critical. Our common goals and mission will continue to play a key role in developing long-lasting relationships that have expanded the program’s impact from advising centers to U.S. university campuses and to students around the world. I know the next twenty years of educational advising are in very good hands with you and with those who follow you as participants of the U.S. Based Training program.

Sincerely,

Mary F. Ashley,

Director

Office of Global Educational Programs
