REVISED GRE® GENERAL TEST CANCELLED
Princeton, N.J. This message is to alert you that ETS has cancelled plans to launch the revised Graduate Record ExaminationsR (GRER) General Test. The test was scheduled to begin in September 2007.
Cancellation of the Revised GRE Test The decision was made after consultation with the Executive Committee of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) Board. Over the past few months we have received input from graduate deans, admission staff, and from the international educational advising community. We took very seriously your concerns, and after much debate and evaluation, decided we could not be assured that all test takers would have access to rGRE testing, and that the contingency plans that had been developed also carried potential risks.
Impact for Advising Centers and Students As a result of this decision, the planned changes for September will not take place. The current computer-based, continuous testing format of the GRE General Test will remain in place for the 2007-2008 testing year. This impacts educational advising centers in at least the following ways:
a.. GRE registration which had been closed in Japan and India will be immediately reopened without restriction. Registration in China will open shortly. b.. GRE registration in all other areas will continue as normal. c.. Advising centers that received an invitation to offer the rGRE test via the iBT system should now please disregard the invitation. The testing network for GRE will remain the same as it has been for the computer-based GRE test. We are not, at this time, recruiting additional test centers for the GRE computer-based test. d.. Methods of preparing for the GRE General Test and preparation materials will remain unchanged. Students should prepare for the Computer-based version of the GRE General Test. e.. This development impacts the preparation of the 2007-08 GRE Bulletin, which will now need to be revised. We will send you information in upcoming weeks on the new schedule.
The attached press release which provides more information about the cancellation of the revised GRE General Test is being distributed worldwide today. Please feel free to share it with local media or students.
This was a difficult decision to make, but we believe it will be in the best interests of students and international education. We appreciate your support in expressing your concerns, and in now sharing with students this decision.
